Carpe Diem everyone!!

hi how are ya? what’s the 411? everyone doing well?
It has been 2 busy weeks, to say the least. Between starting school, an internship, and everything else I have barely even had time to ENJOY music. Let alone really experience it, but that’s why I like doing this newsletter. I get to dedicate time to listen to all the songs I missed and document my opinions on them & share this moment with you all!
So with the addition of school to my schedule, I thought I would give you all a study playlist! So this week’s list is all lofi, instrumental, study music for you to ace all your classes. I also linked my favorite Spotify created playlist a well since I know music is a tricky thing and people have different study preferences.
hope you enjoy it!!! but I’m actually really excited about the new music/artist alerts below (:<
NEW MUSIC ALERT:
a little more music than usual - tried to highlight a variety bc its been 2 weeks
Duckwrth - SuperGood - okay first things first… the transitions on this album = 1000% yup. Sry I am in love with the man and nothing is going to change that, except that I might be more in love after listening to this album (granted as I’m writing this I am only on the 4th song… will return & update) Alright **UPDATE** love it— dare I say his best album yet?? Duckwrth really has his own sound and he delivered, leveled up, exceeded expectations, honed in on his perfection. *hip hop, r&b, rap*
Boy Pablo - Rest up and People - the fact that Boy Pablo has to keep TEASING this album of his… oh my god. Within the first 10 seconds of Rest up, I literally turned to my reflection in my mirror with my mouth agape. I think it’s his voice? I don’t know anything except the fact that it’s great. Both songs have that melancholy indie guitar sound (also known as jangle) to it but leveled up with his lyrics & voice. People is definitely more sad but still enjoyable. *indie rock, indie pop, jangle*
Tobi Lou - Pretty Much - Classic Tobi Lou, no more no less, just consistently good. Love the beat on it. I really hope he drops his album sooner than later. Also beautiful album cover. Go listen. *hip hop*
Iggy Azalea / Tinashe - Dance Like Nobody’s Watchin - Hate me all you want but I think Iggy deserved better ok? Regardless this song is super poppy ..,.it’s kinda trash…but trash you deep down kinda like? ok sry. The only reason I’m including it here is that I like both of the artists, and I predict the song might blow up on tik tok..,. you heard it here first folks. (if it doesn’t happen I’ll be severely embarrassed so don’t come for me) *pop*
Glass Animals - Dreamland - This album has been a long time in the making, after slow drops of singles the whole thing is here and complete for everyone to enjoy, however, I might not have been in the mood when I first heard it. After going back and listening again I enjoyed it, but I think it’s music for doing things like cleaning, doing homework, mindless activities. Keeps you at pace doing something, but the lyrics lack the depth that you don’t need to focus on the songs. I do like all the beats though, and their song titles are mildly vague and trippy. Listen for a fun time. *psychedelic pop, trip-hop, indie rock, electronic*
Taylor Swift - The Lakes - I don’t care that I love Taylor Swift with all of my heart and I love Folklore a lot a lot. Regardless this song is good, gave me chills, for some reason her voice triggers very emotional responses from me like crying?? okay TMI, I get it. I like the metaphorical lyrics, but I don’t like that the song doesn’t feel like it has an ending which is strange since it’s a bonus to her album so if anything it should really finalize/complete the rest of the songs? Go listen for yourself though. *country, pop, folk*
The Neighbourhood - Devil’s Advocate - classified as a single, but it really shouldn’t be since they just dropped 3 good songs. I honestly never paid that much attention to the neighborhood, but after listening to these I will be watching them like a hawk. They are alternative rock/indie rock but they dabble around a little with their sounds. All three songs take you to a different place. Go experience. I recommend. *alt/indie rock*
NEW ARTIST ALERT:

top left to right: BabyJake, Dexter // bottom left to right: The Hails, DVR
BABYJAKE: if you like Healy, Peach Tree Rascals, Grady you will enjoy this “urban pop” collection of soft-rock, hip-hop, and r&b mashup. I actually really liked this bio on him, read if you want! He dropped a new album: Don’t give me problems, give me wine at the beginning of this month and I think it’s really worth listening to.
DVR: listen for bedroom pop, indie, chill late-night vibes. DVR is new to the music scene with only releases from 2020. He’s 16 and produced all his music, hence the bedroom pop. My fav song of his so far is Muscles. Check him out!
THE HAILS: if you like Kid Bloom, Undercover Dream Lovers, HUNNY, or just some indie rock that makes you feel happy listen to The Hails. Oh my god I’m literally in love with them and all of their songs. Listen to their latest drop, Heartbeat.
DEXTER: she has two!!! songs!! both released this year. Her name is Dexter because according to her Spotify bio, “dexter is the best name in the 🌎”. If you like Thomas Headon, Alfie Templeman (both previous new artist mentions) or bedroom pop, that is echoey and soft, maybe even a little melancholy #heartbreaksongs, check her out. Start with Good Time.
THE PLAYLIST: SCHOLAR MODE ACTIVATED
Cheers to getting good grades this semester and staying healthy!! Wishing you the best of luck with all your classes virtual or not. Below is my own lofi study playlist. If you haven’t heard of lofi before, it’s defined as “a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections of a recording or performance are audible, sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice” (Wikipedia). 95% of the song on this playlist are instrumental hip hop-esque beats so you can memorize all your important class info.
